Emerald Ash Borer

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive insect that kills ash trees. It entered North America in 2002 and has killed over 100 million trees. The challenge is that the insect cannot be eradicated nor contained, but the damage is causes can be managed.

Emerald Ash Borer Insect

Issues caused by EAB:

  • At its peak, EAB kills approximately 75% of your ash trees in a 3–5 year period.
  • Trees become a challenge to remove as they die quickly, leaving standing dead trees.
  • Trees killed by EAB quickly dry out, becoming brittle and fragile.
  • Storm damage is more severe when many dead trees are present
  • EAB costs money whether you "let it run its course," proactively remove trees, or use protective treatments.

A community should see itself in the same way as its trees. If trees are dying, the town is dying. Planting trees symbolizes a community that is alive, prosperous, and growing.
